The Pfadfinderhaus is the clubhouse of the Salzburg 6 Maxglan scout group and forms the heart of this active scout group. It is used for meetings, celebrations, seminars, and to accommodate visiting scouts. Our Pfadfinderhaus is located directly adjacent to Georgsgrund, which has been used by our group since 1978.
The original house was much smaller and dates back to the post-war period when it was the residence of the Fischer family – which is why the house is often referred to as the Fischer’s house. The former building and the land have been rented since January 2010. In September 2011, the Maxglan Scouts purchased the property. Initially, the small building was used as a storage room and museum for the many items from the group’s archive, but plans for a new house were already in place. The renovation began in February 2015 with the clearing out of the house. Under the leadership of Ernst Fuchs, the former group leader of the Maxglan’s scouts, the group renovated their house completely independently until it was opened in the summer of 2019.
The renovation increased the usable space, and a newly constructed wooden ceiling above the ground floor and a new roof truss created an additional upper floor with even more usable space. The large open space under the roof offers many possibilities for use. With a very well-equipped kitchen and spacious sanitary facilities, the Pfadfinderhaus is also ideal for groups of up to 25 people to stay overnight. The light-flooded covered pergola forms a sheltered outdoor space and creates an important connection to the “Georgsgrund” – more on this on page 10.

Our Pfadfinderhaus and the Georgsgrund are located in the city of Salzburg (district Maxglan) and are therefore easily accessible by public transport.
From the main station, take bus no 2 (direction Walserfeld) to Karolingerstraße.
From the city centre, take bus no 10 (direction Walserfeld) to Pressezentrum.
Both lines are going out of town to the airport.
When arriving by car via the motorway, exit at Flughafen (exit 296), continue on the B1 direction city centre. After the airport, turn right at the second traffic light into Karolingerstraße. See map on pages 4 and 5.
There is a covered barbecue area and firewood available at Georgsgrund. The barbecue area must not be left unattended while in use. The barbecue must be cleaned after use.
There are enough benches and tables in the Pfadfinderhaus, but everything should remain where it is. This means that tables and chairs from the upper floor should not be taken downstairs or outside. There are extra tables and chairs for outdoor use. All furnishings must remain in the house!
If you need additional tables and benches for your outdoor activities, we can provide you with so-called beer table sets – please contact Roswitha (+43 676 6832284) if required.
Unfortunately, no campfires are allowed in the area around the Pfadfinderhaus and on the Georgsgrund. You can use the barbecue place on the Georgsgrund to prepare meals.
For check-in, we need the contact information for the group leader as well as a list of all guests, including their last name, first name, and date of birth. A guest registration form (see page 12) must be completed electronically.
In order to provide you with your Guest Mobility Tickets at check-in, we need your information before you arrive.
We kindly ask you to keep the scout’s house and the Georgsgrund clean. Before you leave, please sweep all floors and wipe floors of the sanitary rooms and kitchen. The kitchen, toilets and wash basins must also be cleaned. Cleaning material is at your disposal and can be found on the ground floor, next to the washing machine.
We reserve the right to charge Eur 150 for extra cleaning at your departure in case the house is left dirty.
Costs comprise
a flat-rate fee of 100 Euro for water, electricity, gas, cleaning (has to be paid as deposit prior to arrival). In case of cancellation, the flat-rate fee may be retained. Accommodation costs have to be payed at arrival or in advance by bank transfer.

Calculation example:
10 people stay for 2 nights – 100 euro flat-rate fee + 10 people × 2 nights × 7 euro

In addition, a mandatory tourism tax of 3.50 euros per night applies to guests over the age of 21 (excluding accompanying persons) – see “general tourism tax”.
Please report any damage immediately – do not try to repair something! In the event of wilful damage, we reserve the right to charge for the costs of repair or replacement.
Before you leave please:
- close all windows and doors.
- sweep all floors and wipe floors in the basement.
- empty bins.
- turn off the main switch for the outside lighting and electric outdoor facilities.
If not agreed otherwise, one of our group will be there when you are leaving to take over the house and keys.
Cookware and dishes for 30 persons are available in the scout’s house. Please only use the dishes in the house and on the pergola. Please report any damage to dishes and cookware! Washing the dishes is only allowed in the kitchen and the outdoor kitchen. Please do not wash your dishes in the shower or basins in the sanitary room!

The kitchen is equipped with an industrial dishwasher.
Glasses or dishes can be cleaned in the dishwasher – two different baskets are available. All dishes need to be rinsed before placing it in the machine. Pots and pans have to be washed by hand. The dishwasher has an automated dosage for dishwashing detergent. Never add any tabs or washing-up liquids!
- Take the baskets out of the machine and insert the drain plug.
- Turn on the dishwasher (main switch), wait until its filled and the water is heated (green indicator lamp will turn on).
- Insert the basked with rinsed dishes.
- Press the start button to start the washing process (operating lamp is on).
- After approx. 5 mins the washing program is finished (operating lamp turns off).
- After 3 to 4 washing cycles the water has to be let out, therefore open the drain plug.
- Take out and clean the sieve.
Please report any damage to electrical installations immediately – do not try to repair something! All fuses are in the main distribution box behind the entrance door.
First aid kits can be found in the Pfadfinderhaus as well as on the Georgsgrund in the sanitary facilities. Please let us know in case you needed something in order to refill the kits.

For your entertainment, we have a selection of games, songbooks, and a guitar that we’re happy to lend you. You’ll find the games and songbooks in the small kitchen in the lounge on the upper floor. There’s a projector there with all the necessary connections – please note that we do not have a computer or laptop available.
A tourism tax (general tourism tax) is payable for overnight stays in the city of Salzburg. Effective May 1, 2025, the general tourism tax, including the mobility contribution, will be 3.50 euros per person per night.
Exempt from this are:
- persons under the age of 15;
- persons between the ages of 15 and 21 who are members of a youth organization and are participating in an event organized by such an organization, as well as their accompanying persons;
- and persons staying in the municipal area as part of a school program.
The protected forest area covers approximately 14,000 m². It has been used by our group since 1978 and is called Georgsgrund, named after St. George, patron saint of scouts. Georgsgrund forms the remainder of the former Eichetwald forest in the west of the city of Salzburg. Much of the forest fell victim to the Maxglaner Exerzierfeld during the time of the imperial and royal monarchy at the beginning of the 20th century. Later, the open field was used as an airfield and is now the site of Salzburg Airport. Until the 1990s, part of our Georgsgrund was used as a campsite.
In the northern part of Georgsgrund, you’ll find our equipment storage facility and another sanitary facility with toilets and a large wash trough in front of the building. Directly opposite the Pfadfinderhaus is another building belonging to the Maxglan Scouts. This wooden structure was rebuilt in 2025 after a severe storm in the summer of 2023 uprooted over 100 trees and destroyed our home. Miraculously, the Pfadfinderhaus remained intact. We planted over 2,000 tree seedlings to reforest the forest. Next to the new wooden house is a storage area for construction timber and a covered barbecue area – see “BBQ” on page 7. Part of the scout forest is currently still closed because the newly planted trees are growing here – please do not enter this area.
To keep our Georgsgrund beautiful and green, please do not damage any trees, pull out any bushes, cut off any branches, and, of course, do not leave any trash on the grounds.
We ask all our guests to sign our guestbook. We’d be happy to swap our neckerchief for yours so we can hang it up here at the Scout House. We’d also love to take a group photo of all our guests to include with your entry in our guestbook.
With the Guest Mobility Ticket, you, as our guest, can use all public transportation throughout the Salzburg region for the duration of your stay. This includes all city transit, regional bus service, all S-Bahn trains, regional trains, long-distance trains, and the Salzburg Verkehr shuttles within the state. You can receive your ticket digitally or as a PDF upon request directly at check-in or in advance via pre-check-in for your arrival. The cost is covered by the general overnight tax (see page 14). The ticket is free for youth groups up to age 21 (and their accompanying adults).

A guest registration form must be completed for each overnight stay. The lead supervisor of the group must enter their information and the details of all participants on the form. You will receive the guest registration form upon arrival.

The house rules set out the most important points regarding the use of our Pfadfinderhaus. The house rules are displayed in the entrance area of the Pfadfinderhaus. By making a reservation and booking, you agree to our house rules.
In the Pfadfinderhaus you can use free internet via our WiFi. You will receive the WiFi password on arrival.
We will hand over keys for the Pfadfinderhaus and the Georgsgrund at your arrival. Please hand back these keys when you are leaving. You will be charged 100 Euro in case of lost keys.
There is a well-equipped kitchen in the Pfadfinderhaus – please keep it clean! Outside, there is a garden kitchen and a pizza oven.
- Whenever you use the gas stove, the extractor fan has to be turned on.
- Please check the instructions for the dishwasher.
The dishwasher has to be emptied before departure. - Please put used towels in the basket next to the washing machine.
- Leftover food must be taken out of the kitchen (and the fridge) before departure.
- No paper filters are needed for the coffee machine. Please always empty the filter.
When accessing via the entrance gate, a basic lighting is turned on by a motion detector. The basic lighting can be switched to continuous operation in the distribution box. Please turn off when leaving.

A 16A socket is located in the kitchen.
Lighting in the in the upper floor of the Pfadfinderhaus
The light switch next to the door only turns on the “night light” (only every second lamp with dimmed light), the switches in the kitchenette and next to the terrace door turn on the “full lighting” (switches are labelled). The full lighting can be dimmed (between window and terrace door).
Lights-out for the outdoor area is at 10 p.m. – please respect this!
The pizza oven in the garden in front of the pergola can be used. To do so, a fire must be lit directly inside the oven. Once the wood has burned down and the oven has heated up – see the thermometer on the oven door – push the ashes to one side and bake bread and pizza directly on the firebrick floor. Tools for the oven are available.
Poles for building are available for camp constructions. Poles must not be shortened. Pay attention to stability.
Trolleybuses operate within the city limits of Salzburg (core zone). For destinations outside the city, there is a well-developed network of suburban trains and buses. Tickets are best purchased online from the Salzburg Transport Association (SVV).
There are several bus stops near the Pfadfinderhaus (see also map on page 5). Line 10 towards the centre and airport/Walserfeld stops at the “Pressezentrum/Kuglhof” stop, while line 2 towards the train station and out of town towards the airport/Walserfeld, as well as regional buses 180 to Großgmain and 260 to Zell am See, stop at the “Karolingerstraße” stop.

On the ground floor of the Pfadfinderhaus there are three toilets, one shower and several wash basins. The sanitary facilities may only be used for personal hygiene. Taking water, washing dishes and other cleaning activities are not allowed.
There is another sanitary facility with several toilets at Georgsgrund near our equipment storage area. There you will also find a large wash trough and a drain. Heavily soiled equipment can be washed there without any problems. You are also allowed to wash dishes here.
Please take off your shoes in the upper floor. Slippers are at your disposal.
Food and household supplies can be purchased in the immediate vicinity of the Pfadfinderhaus. The location of the nearest shopping facilities can also be seen on the map on page 5.

The upper floor of the Pfadfinderhaus is intended as a dormitory. However, there are no beds or mattresses – you must bring your own sleeping pad.
Smoking is prohibited by law inside buildings – see § 12 Abs. 3 of the „Tabak- und Raucherschutzgesetz“ (Tobacco and Smoking Protection Act).
There is a washing machine available in the sanitary room on the ground floor of the Pfadfinderhaus. If you want to do your laundry, please check with Roswitha (+43 676 6832284) beforehand.
Waste needs to be separated in Salzburg – something natural for scouts! Please use the black bin for residual waste (Restabfall), the green bin for organic waste (Bioabfall), the yellow bag for lightweight and metal packaging (Leicht- & Metallverpackungen), the grey bin for glass (Altglas), the red bin for paper (Altpapier). PET bottles are returnable and can be returned to the supermarket. Empty all bins before departure!
Guidelines for waste separation can be found at the dustbins.
We have very good tap water in Austria. There are several water places for drinking water in the garden of the Pfadfinderhaus and on the Georgsgrund. Please do not waste the precious water!
Scout groups and other befriended youth organisations can stay overnight.
